Bree Van Dyke specialist in working with LGBTQ youth ages 11-25
Would you go back to being thirteen? Most people would say the teenage years are among the most confusing, disorienting, and difficult stages of life. Youth who begin to recognize that they are LGBTQ+ have even more issues to deal with.
In a 2019 survey of LGBTQ youth mental health funded by the Trevor Project, 71% of LGBTQ youth reported feeling sad or hopeless for at least two weeks in the past year. Additionally 76 percent said that the current political climate impacted their mental health.
Bree Van Dyke understands this dynamic–she lived it. Her own experience was the motivation for getting a master’s degree in social work and earning her ACSW credential. Now a therapist, she works with LGBTQ youth at The Village Family Services.
Having walked in their shoes, Van Dyke is particularly suited to guiding LGBTQ youth from struggling to thriving. She provides individual and group therapy to young members of our community who experience anxiety, depression, self-harm, and trauma.
The good news is that LGBTQ youth can learn how to thrive. Bree will share with us some tools to help the youth in our lives love themselves, build healthy relationships, overcome stigma and discrimination, develop resilience, and building community.
