Meetings

PFLAG started as a group of parents and LGBTQ people meeting to understand and support each other and their families.

Our monthly meetings are still the heart of what we do. You will find remarkable acceptance, understanding, information, resources and support at a PFLAG meeting,
and we encourage you to take advantage of them.
For many of us, healing and hope began at our first meeting.

WESTWOOD MEETING

TIME: 3rd Wednesday, monthly
7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
(doors open at 7:00 pm)

PLACE: Westwood Church
10497 Wilshire Boulevard,
Los Angeles, CA 90024
North east corner of
Wilshire and Warner.
(Map)

Walk through the patio and look for PFLAG signs directing you to Helms Hall, located on the west end of the third floor.

At most meetings, support groups are followed by refreshments and a speaker. The Los Angeles area is fortunate to have many academic, professional, and philanthropic LGBTQ organizations. Speakers come from a wide range of backgrounds and speak on topics that have included, but are not limited to, anthropology, psychology, biology, safe schools, equity for LGBTQ persons and their families, gay youth, and many others. See our Events page for information on our upcoming guest speaker.

PARKING: Please park in the underground lot of the Belmont Village Westwood, located on Wilshire Boulevard immediately to the East of the church. Enter the Belmont Village premises from Wilshire and proceed straight to the entry of the parking structure, on your right. Park on the 2nd or 3rd levels in any space NOT designated as BELMONT PARKING.

Use the elevator or stairs at the west end of the parking structure to get to ground level. As you exit the elevator pavilion, proceed to the right across the front steps of the church to the door just to the left of the main entrance.

DIRECTIONS: Take the 405 Freeway to the Wilshire Boulevard East exit. Continue 1.5 miles to the church. The entry is immediately to the west of the main church door. Walk through the patio and look for PFLAG signs directing you to Helms Hall, located on the west end of the third floor. For those using public transportation, LA Metro bus number 20 stops at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Warner Avenue.

GENDER FOCUS MEETING

TIME: 2nd Thursday, monthly
7:30 – 9:30 pm
(doors open at 7:15)

PLACE: Bienstar in Hollywood
4955 W. Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(Map)

Like all of our meetings, everyone in the LGBTQ community is welcome–along with all parents, family, friends and straight allies. Each of you will find a warm reception and understanding support.

Many individuals dealing with issues of gender identity find that they are minorities even at a PFLAG meeting. Our new Gender Focus meeting is designed to help end that isolation, with leaders experienced in transgender issues and knowledgeable about resources for people with a variety of gender experiences including, but not limited to, transgender, gender nonconforming, gender questioning, gender creative, queer, and transsexual. Parents of gender creative children are also encouraged to attend.

DIRECTIONS: Three blocks West of Vermont Avenue or three blocks East of Normandie Avenue, on the North side of the street.

PARKING: Free parking is available behind the building and on the street. Enter lot from Kenmore Avenue

We look forward to seeing you at a meeting soon!

Who comes to PFLAG meetings?
PFLAG Los Angeles is not a political or a religious group (in spite of the fact that many meetings take place in churches). Our members and participants include people from diverse ethnic, religious, cultural, and economic backgrounds. We are young, middle aged, and seniors. We are lesbian, gay, straight, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning. Sometimes, parents and children come together, on occasion with all of the siblings. Sometimes, LGBT persons come with their partners. Parents come together or singly. Often people bring a friend for support. The straight spouses and children of LGBT persons can find understanding and assistance at PFLAG meetings. Everyone is welcome.

What are PFLAG meetings like?
After a brief introduction, the meeting leader, a PFLAG board member, will organize those attending into small groups. In this more intimate setting, run by a trained facilitator, participants can share what’s on their minds in a supportive, non-judgmental environment, or simply listen. Strict confidentiality is observed.
