Women’s History Month: Audre Lorde and the Strength in Our Differences
This Women’s History Month, PFLAG Los Angeles honors Audre Lorde, a Black lesbian feminist poet and writer whose work continues to shape movements for justice and equality.
Lorde challenged systems of racism, sexism, and homophobia through both her writing and her activism. She spoke openly about identity, power, and the ways in which silence can reinforce injustice.
Her work pushed people to confront uncomfortable truths and recognize that difference is not something to fear, but something to understand and value. She believed that lasting change requires honesty, self-reflection, and a willingness to engage across lived experiences.
Lorde’s voice remains deeply relevant today. Her writing continues to guide conversations about intersectionality, community, and the importance of speaking out.
At PFLAG Los Angeles, we see the impact of her legacy in the families and individuals who come together to learn, support one another, and build stronger communities.
